The auction rescue was a huge success, much bigger than we were expecting. Thanks to your support, we raised enough funds to rescue and care for 25 horses, but when we reached that goal, our rescue team just couldn’t say no to some more precious lives. How could we say “No, you are shipping to slaughter” to the completely blind horse staggering around the auction ring in fear and bewilderment? Despite being blind, the kill buyers were bidding on her. How could we say “No, we will not help you” to the little miniature horse with an extremely long hoof desperately needing our help? How could we say “No, we won’t help you” to the young 4-year-old horse the kill buyer was bidding on? How could we say “No, we will not rescue you, and give you the last act of kindness” to the extremely old, suffering horse that someone thoughtlessly dumped into the slaughter pipeline. We could not turn a blind eye to the little foal who was recently pulled from his mom who was so scared. We could not say no to them, we knew that if you could have been there with us you would have donated to save them. I’m asking you now to please help us cover the cost of these five additional ones we could not say no to.
Below is a photo of one of the ponies we were able to save, and the receipts for purchasing the 30 horses and ponies, which was almost $10,000. We will be getting pictures and information to you soon, but for now, our rescue team is going to get a few hours of sleep then get them loaded up and transported back to the shelter first thing in the morning.
