We have some very exciting news. The WaterShed Animal Fund has awarded us a $10,000 grant to host a first-ever 1 Day Open Door Shelter for horses offering free surrender and euthanasia if needed. Any of the remaining funds from the grant will go into our Last Act of Kindness program. We are very excited about this grant and the 1 Day Open Door Shelter. The event will be at the Norman, OK fairgrounds.
This is a pilot event and in an area that is not used to having horse welfare opportunities. We need all the help we can get to spread the word! Please send this blog on to any horse friends you have in Oklahoma. If you know of any good advertising opportunities that would be appropriate please let us know.
The 1-Day Open Door Shelter for horses is open to all members of the equine family. Horses taken to auction are mostly purchased by kill buyers and then shipped for slaughter. If you have a horse that you can’t keep anymore please bring him to our 1-Day Shelter, don’t let your horse fall into the slaughter pipeline!

We are in need of volunteers to help with this event. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact us: okshelter@horsehumane.org
We have created a Facebook event for this one day shelter. We would appreciate it if you would share the event with your friends. We know most of you can’t attend the event, but if you click on the button that says “Interested” that will help others see the event and spread the word as Facebook limits posts, but shares it with more people the more activity it has. Please spread the word!
