Petfinder sent us an amazing letter with some great opportunities this morning, along with the weekly stats for the horses we have on our available page. First off, Petfinder Foundation is donating $1,000,000 towards buying generators for rescues that need a generator to round out their emergency preparedness plan. With 35-70 horses to water, a generator would be greatly useful for when the power goes out. That’s a lot of water to pump every day! We’ve already filled out and sent in the application, so now it’s a wait and see game. If we are awarded a generator we will no longer have to borrow a generator to water when the power goes out.
Next, and this is really exciting, Petfinder Foundation is letting you choose which animal welfare organization will get $5,000. All you have to do is vote for us, click here. NorCal Equine Rescue is located in Oroville, California. This is a great opportunity for us to get some much needed financial assistance. This morning we loaded some panels into the trailer and headed off to Ukiah to pick up yet another cute white Pony. You may remember our 2nd blog post was about white ponies in Ukiah, if you missed that one, click here. Animal Control contacted us last week asking us to come pick the wild guy up.
Once the panels were loaded we headed off for the 300 mile trip. You can see on the map below how our trip went.
Of course there was road construction with 20 minute delays, fortunately on the way back we came through after quitting time so we sailed on through.
On this mountain, there is a herd of wild pony’s. The story is, about 40 years ago, a kids camp let all their pony’s loose when they closed shop. And now, 40 years later, they are still living out there wild and free. The terrain is very rough and extremely steep. These little pony’s are very hardy and run all over the mountains. This photo was taken from Hwy 101, it would be a tragedy if the ponies made it down and onto the road again. One pony was killed when the herd wandered down onto the road a few years ago.
We finally arrived at almost the top of the mountain, and sure enough, Snowplow (we are continuing the Snow____ pony name as we rescue white pony’s from Ukiah) was waiting for us. Animal Control was nice enough to have him gelded and save us the cost. The lady that was able to correl him made a donation that covered the fuel to pick him up.
We unloaded the panels, got a correl set up attached to the horse trailer…
…closed Snowplow in the panels…
…and like a pro he jumped into the trailer. Yes, our trailer does need a bath on the inside. It’s on our to-do list.
We arrived at about Sunset and Snowplow was happy to meet Arrow over the fence. FYI, he’s not halter broke, the vet put the lead rope on him when he was gelded.

The current auction funds are at $2262 with the matching grant of $2500 and the pledged $1500 we are at $6262! Some of these funds may be moved into the October auction fund depending on how the bidding goes this Sunday.
