Horse Plus Humane Society is committed to adopting horses into loving homes. We stand out as the only horse shelter with 2 full-time, on site veterinarians, providing comprehensive medical evaluation and treatment for each horse from its arrival. Our veterinarians are always on site so health certificates for out-of-state adoptions are available immediately. Our medical team conducts x-rays, lameness exams, dentals, comprehensive blood panels, ultrasounds, and attends to any additional needs the horses may have. Our dedicated training team works diligently with the rescued horses, ensuring that any identified behavioral or medical issues are communicated to prospective adopters for complete transparency. We believe in openness and honesty, as withholding crucial information often leads to horses slipping through the cracks. In the event of an unsuitable match or change in life circumstances, we welcome returned horses. We also offer the option of exchanging one horse for another that better suits your needs, as long as the previous adopted horse was well cared for by you.
Adopting a horse from us comes with a flat rate adoption fee of $650. We always appreciate any additional donations, as rescuing and transitioning a horse into a new home usually costs around $2000. If you're considering adoption, feel free to submit an application - we've made the process as straightforward as possible. Don't worry, we keep all applications on file for six months. We can't wait to help you find your new horse companion!
Attention Rescue Organizations:
Sheltered animals are available for transfer to 501(c)3 rescue organizations. Beginner and intermediate horses are available for shelter transfer after 90 days. All other animals are available for transfer with veterinarian clearance. We offer a $250 grant to the organization taking the horse into their facility to assist with cost of bringing a horse into a rescue organization.
Previously, we also provided smaller grants for small animal rescue transfers, but with the employment of two full-time staff veterinarians performing spay and neuter surgeries, our Board of Directors discontinued this small animal grant assistance program as of December 2023 since the small animal transfer grant was intended to help with a spay neuter cost of transferred animals.
