We just want to say a huge thank you to each and every person who made this auction rescue possible. We were able to rescue 21 precious horses and pull them out of the slaughter pipeline. We made a short preview video on the way back to the shelter so you can see the horses getting ready to load this morning after the auction, you can watch that video at this link: https://www.facebook.com/horsehumane/posts/3656085467782564
They all arrived at our shelter and were seen by our veterinarian, farrier, and intake team. We had three different trailers transporting all the horses back to our shelter at one time. As the horses unloaded off the trailers we were happy to see that they traveled well and all seemed to be doing ok.

Every horse was carefully evaluated and given whatever it needed. They all wanted love and attention, they just couldn’t get enough of all the love and snuggles we gave them.

Two of the horses were suffering from chronic painful lameness and after X-rays and evaluations it was determined that humane euthanasia was the kindest thing we could do to relieve their constant pain. They were humanely euthanized by our veterinarian and were surrounded by love and kindness. We are thankful that we were able to rescue them even if it was just to give them the Last Act of Kindness. They are no longer suffering and that is a comfort to us.

The other horses all received vaccinations, were given deworming, electrolytes, were microchipped, and given whatever the veterinarian thought they needed. Our vet took many X-rays during the evaluation process. Finally, after the long busy day, all the horses were ready to be settled in for the evening. It’s always a wonderful sight watching the horses released out into the pasture after their shelter intake has been done. They’re so happy running and really realizing that they don’t have to stress anymore and their worries are behind them.

We rescued a little orphan donkey, and with the cold weather and his current health we were very worried about him so he is spending the night in our climate-controlled hospital stall at our shelter. We gave him a stuffed toy dog to keep him company and he seemed to really connect with it.

All of the horses are currently posted on our Facebook page and we are asking for name suggestions for them. If you would like to suggest a name head on over there and suggest a name or like a name that you think best fits the horse. Again we cannot possibly thank you enough for your gift of hope to horses who had none. Your support to rescue, shelter, and protect horses is greatly appreciated.
