When we saw baby Benjamin at the auction we knew we had to rescue him. He was cold, traumatized and hungry, desperately searching for someone to take care of him and love him.
When we got him to our shelter, everyone’s heart melted when they saw him. He is so sweet and fluffy and cannot get enough attention from us. When he sees us coming he brays softly and then soaks up the hugs and kisses we give him.
We are worried about his health, with him being so young and without his mom, but he seems to be doing fine as of right now and we are giving him the best possible care with a warm climate-controlled stall. We are hoping that he can fully regain his strength and grow healthy enough to eventually find a good loving home where he is well taken care of and loved. We don’t know what happened to his mom, he was at the auction alone at only 4 months old. He has especially bonded to Tawnee and will follow her around wherever she goes. We put “Max” the stuffed dog in his stall with him to keep him company at night…
His long fluffy coat of hair hid the skeleton underneath. Being only 90 pounds he had no meat on his bones to keep him warm. He stays dry and warm in our climate-controlled stall, and now at our shelter, he is eating and drinking well and starting to gain some weight, which will help him stay warm and grow.
Benjamin spends these colder winter days warm and cozy inside the stall in our onsight hospital, getting all the care and love he needs. He is such a big snuggle bug and will lay in your arms for as long as you’ll let him. Spending time with our staff is his favorite thing to do and can’t seem to get enough of it. We fell in love with him the first day he came to the shelter and thoroughly enjoy the snuggle sessions with his soft fluffy coat, sweet eyes, and long baby donkey ears.
He is our big baby and we are so thankful for all y’all’s support who made it possible for us to rescue him and give him the love and care he needs and deserves. Thanks to you Horse Heroes who made the November auction rescue possible, baby Benjamin was rescued from going to a horrible place and is now safe and loved to the fullest at our shelter. We are thrilled that we were able to rescue him and give him a better life, a life that he deserves. No no donkey or horse deserves to be mistreated and dumped at an auction, but with your help and support we can save horses from going to slaughter and adopt them into loving homes.
