Sadly, there are people like trolls, kill buyers, horse traders and even jealous horse rescues out there who bash our organization and try to hinder our efforts of rescuing, sheltering, and protecting horses. We very rarely address bashers, but they are going after people who interact with our page again, so we want to address this one.
The latest claim is that horses go missing at our shelter and that we may even be taking them back to auction. This is not true, we keep very detailed records of every animal that comes to our shelter, and obviously, we would never sell horses at livestock auctions, it goes completely against our mission of rescuing horses out of the slaughter pipeline. When horses come to us, there are three ways for them to leave: Adoption, Adoption Placement Transfer, or the Last Act of Kindness for horses that need it.
Where the confusion may come in for these people, if they are honestly confused and not just making up lies about our organization, is due to the size of Horse Plus Humane Society and the number of animals we rescue, we do not put every animal in our media, and some adopters don’t want to be in our show. For example: if a family has adopted a child, they don’t want to be seen on social media.
The bashing Facebook page that was created claims that there are all these horses missing from our organization. They spent a huge amount of time going through our photos, trying to prove that horses are missing, but if they watched Horse Shelter Heroes they would have seen many of the horses they claim missing being adopted or shelter transferred in the show, like the examples in the photos.
We would like to applaud our followers for making us aware of this situation. If you are contacted by someone bashing our organization, please take a screenshot and send it to us. You can be a horse’s hero just by reporting the trolls! In reality, every time someone slanders reputable organizations that are doing amazing work, whether it’s a dog and cat rescue, horse rescue, environmental protection, children’s services, it ultimately hurts the cause. There are a couple of nonprofit rescues we know of that have shared negativity about us, and it’s very sad they are losing their focus on doing good in their own organization. We won’t name these organizations because they are helping horses and we would never want to hinder their efforts of helping horses in need.
