Tawnee Was Kicked!
Tawnee was kicked by a horse at the auction this morning and received a severe injury to her leg. Unfortunately due to the accident there is no short auction video showing the intake at the auction today because Tawnee was into much pain to edit a video on the way back to the shelter.

Auction Rescue Update
19 sets of hoof beats, 19 sets of eyes, 19 heart beats and 19 lives saved from death. Healthy ones, sick ones, scared ones, scarred up ones, young ones, old ones and very skinny ones. All 19 saved from an awful ride to possibly another auction, or if they were lucky for a short bit, to a kill pen, but in the end, to a slaughter house in Mexico, if they didn’t die before they got there.

There is no way we can describe how we feel right now knowing that these 19 precious lives won’t be taking that road. Instead, when they got off the trailers there was an intake team ready to get into action with horses being caught, health exams, vaccines, microchips, dewormer, probiotics, electrolytes, coggins pulled, x-rays taken, teeth floated, wounds taken care of and a little grooming time in between. Horses made their way through the barn and into their new pasture, there to enjoy the next 30 days of quarantine with as much food as their hearts desire.

Each of these horses made an impact on our lives and in our hearts. There is one though that will leave an impact with some sadness behind. One we had to say goodbye to even though we hadn’t known her long. We don’t know her past history but what we do know is she needed someone to love her long before today. Someone to take care of her so she didn’t get too far gone to help, someone to show her what true love was so she didn’t feel like hurting someone was the only way to live. Our hearts ache when we see moments like this. Moments that we wish would never happen.

Yes. it would be so much easier to rescue only healthy, trained, and amazing horses. But what would happen to the ones that aren’t healthy, trained and amazing? They would be making that trip without even knowing what true love is again or even at all. This is why we do what we do. We do it to show what true love really is and what it feels like. No, they don’t speak words to tell us how they feel about it all but when you see the joy come back into their eyes, the pep in their step comes back and the weight comes back on, the feeling is amazing! That is what we live for!

And don’t think for a minute you didn’t help with this in any way because you did! Without your support there is no way we would ever be able to make these dreams come true for these horses. Without you none of this would even be possible. 19 precious lives wouldn’t have been saved last night if it wasn’t for you! If you did not make a donation yet, please donate now to help us rescue, shelter and protect horses across the United States!
Thank you so much!
Sarah – Assistant Manager
P.S.
Tawnee did go to Urgent Care after the horses were safely transported to the shelter and she should be okay, she has a lot of muscle damage that will take time to heal. The horse that kicked her is settling in and we are hopeful that the kick was a stress reaction to being at the auction. We will be monitoring the horse closely to ensure that nobody else gets hurt and this behavior does not continue.
