As 2020 began, the team welcomed a fresh start — with new faces, rescued horses, and renewed hope for every life they touch. This special kickoff episode of the Horse Shelter Heroes vlog series gives us a behind-the-scenes look at the amazing people and horses that make the shelter’s mission possible.

Meet the Team Making Magic Happen
The year started with introductions to the hardworking crew who keep things running every day:
- Sarah, our office manager, is the friendly voice behind every call and email.
- Tina, the equine manager, oversees the horses’ training, care, and adoption journeys.
- Chloe, the health and husbandry manager, splits her time between the shelter and the vet office, ensuring every animal receives top-notch medical care.
- Travis joined the team this week! His first day was packed with feeding, watering, and even fixing a broken manure spreader.
- Jason, the man behind the camera, captures the heartfelt moments that tell the story of rescue and renewal.
- And Tawnee, the founder, who started this mission at just 19 years old, continues to lead with passion and compassion.
Every one of them plays a vital role in giving horses a second chance, and your donations make it all possible.
Gratitude in Every Envelope
Sarah spent part of the week sending thank-you cards to supporters. Each card tells a story, like one mare rescued through an animal control case who gave birth safely at the shelter. These moments are a powerful reminder of how every gift transforms lives.
New Arrivals and Gentle Training
Two beautiful new horses arrived to start the year:
- Party, a 9-12-year-old Welsh pony full of personality, and
- Shelly, a gentle Quarter Horse with lots of energy and potential.
Trainer Todd worked patiently with Molasses, a three-year-old just learning the ropes, literally! Starting her training without a bit, Todd focused on comfort and trust. “You want to make the first time as easy and comfortable as possible” he said, showing the patience and care that defines the Horse Plus approach.
Treats and Happy Endings
A package of probiotic treats arrived, much to the delight of the shelter’s four-legged residents. But the sweetest moment of all? Chip, a beloved 28-year-old gelding, found his forever home!
“It’s sad to see them go” Tawnee shared, “but when you know they’re going to get all that attention, it’s worth it.”
