Welcoming Travis Back
Today kicked off with some much-needed good news: Travis is officially back on light duty! After being cleared by his doctor, the team was beyond excited to have him return, and of course, they celebrated in true Horse Plus fashion… with a carrot cake. His presence has been missed, and having him back brings a lift to the whole shelter.
Meanwhile, Tawnee is a bit quieter than usual, but for the best reason. After singing at a nursing home to bring cheer, she lost her voice. She’s still smiling through it and doing what she can while she recovers.
Managing Health Concerns
Early suspicion pointed to pneumonitis, but the lab recommended checking for possible flu as well. Cultures are underway to make sure the team catches any issues early and keeps all horses safe.
Spring Shedding and Sweet Velma
Velma, one of the January auction rescues, is in full shedding mode. With winter fuzz coming off in handfuls, she got some much-needed grooming to help her feel clean and comfortable.
New Kennels Taking Shape
Construction continues on the new kennels, and they’re coming along beautifully. While Horse Plus isn’t shifting focus to operate as a full dog-and-cat shelter, the team wants to be prepared. If an animal arrives unexpectedly, they’ll soon have a safe, comfortable space ready.
Copper’s Big Evaluation Day
Copper got a full brushing and an evaluation session today, and he shined. He handled stops, turns, and all cues with calm responsiveness. His confidence and willingness made the team proud, and he’s proving to be a steady, reliable partner.
Ember’s Gentle Progress
Ember also had a session. Though shy and timid, he’s slowly warming up with consistent handling. His progress is small but meaningful, and every step forward counts.
