At Horse Plus Humane Society, every horse has a story and every story deserves a happy ending. In the latest episode of Horse Shelter Heroes, we got a behind-the-scenes look at the incredible work our team does to care for, rehabilitate, and rehome horses in need.

Desensitization and Saddle Training
The episode opened with hands-on training for our horses. Four-year-old Hobbs, three-year-old Tennessee Walker Godiva, and others were getting used to saddles and human touch through gentle desensitization exercises. From brushing to working with leg mannequins, these activities help build trust and prepare our horses for their future homes.
Nourishment and Recovery
Our shelter is bustling with horses, all receiving daily care and fresh grain. Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, horses like Copper, Sadie, and Sunflower are thriving. In just three weeks, the combined weight of our new intake horses increased from 6,697 pounds to 7,074 pounds. Watching these transformations reminds us why our Grain Fund is so important.
Evaluations and Adoption Prep
Our team carefully evaluates each horse’s behavior, health, and readiness for adoption.
Venus, a spirited 23-year-old, showed off her energy during a riding evaluation.
Copper demonstrated his incredible progress and adaptability.
Each evaluation helps us match these amazing horses with the perfect forever home.
Auction Rescues: A Lifeline
No episode would be complete without sharing our auction rescues. This time, we were able to bring seven horses back to the shelter, safe from uncertain futures.
From microchipping to vaccinations, worming, and careful weight monitoring, every horse receives the care they deserve.
Some of our auction rescues had been used hard, suffering from injuries, dehydration, and neglect, but thanks to our team, they are finally getting a chance to heal.
