Horse Shelter Heroes – Episode 53 – February Auction Rescue
Every auction brings horses in need of urgent care, and thanks to the tireless efforts of Horse Plus Humane Society, more horses are getting a second chance at life. With trailers, veterinary support, and a heart full of compassion, the team tackles the difficult work of rescue, intake, and care—turning auction chaos into hope.

Heading to the Auction
The team set out ready to rescue as many horses as possible, prioritizing those in critical condition. With countless horses at the auction, it was impossible to save them all, but each life rescued is a victory.
Critical Care and Veterinary Support
Three of the most vulnerable horses were transported directly to the University of Tennessee Veterinary Medical Center for intensive monitoring and treatment, including bloodwork, ultrasounds, and body condition assessments.
Back at the shelter, all rescued horses received calming treatments, vaccinations, deworming and microchipping to ensure they stayed safe and relaxed after the stressful auction experience.
Medical Challenges & Compassionate Decisions
Many horses carried the scars of past neglect: old injuries, arthritis, skin conditions and severe malnutrition. While some will thrive and find loving homes, a few were suffering too severely to recover. In those cases, the team provided a last act of kindness, offering the horses peace and dignity after lives of hardship.
A Second Chance
Some horses underwent gelding procedures to help them adjust safely to shelter life and future adoption. Each rescue is a reminder of the impact of compassion and generosity, turning lives of uncertainty into stories of hope, hoof by hoof.
Thanks to supporters across the country, these horses now have care, comfort and a chance to heal, showing that every effort truly makes a difference!
