A New Chapter with a New Head Trainer
We proudly welcomed Maddie to the Horse Plus team as our new Head Horse Trainer. With Jessie shifting her focus to adoptions, Maddie stepped in to give horses even more one-on-one training and preparation for their future homes. From round pen work to saddling and building trust, Maddie wasted no time getting hands-on and helping horses like Astrid move closer to their first rides and forever families.
Full Days at the Vet and Farrier
Medical care was front and center throughout the episode. Horses and donkeys received eye checks, trims, stitches removed and routine testing. Diego continued treatment for his eye condition, Daisy had a full day of care and several donkeys required sedation to safely get their feet done.
One especially emotional moment involved Ray, a horse who had been fighting a long-term injury. After careful examination, the veterinarian determined that healing was no longer possible, and the kindest choice was to let him go peacefully. While never easy, moments like these reflect our commitment to ending suffering with dignity and love.
A Gentle Goodbye and New Arrivals
Bonita, a 20-year-old Quarter Horse with vision challenges, was surrendered to Horse Plus so she could receive the care and understanding she needs. Her arrival was a reminder of how important it is for owners to ask for help when circumstances change.
Challenges Beyond the Barn
This episode also highlighted real-world hurdles, including nationwide shortages of vaccines, medications and even gasoline. The gas shortage forced canceled adoption appointments and required the team to rely on electric equipment to keep daily operations running. Despite these obstacles, care for the animals never stopped.
When Plans Change, Love Wins
Adoption day did not go according to plan, but in the best way possible. Families connected with horses and donkeys they had not initially planned to adopt, proving once again that animals often choose their people.
By the end of the day, Prince, Coco, Hulk, and Red all found loving homes. Every adoption looked a little different than expected, but each one was exactly right.
