Caring for Longtime Residents
The episode begins with farrier day for several familiar faces. Angel, rescued as a tiny foal and now fully grown, bravely gets her hooves trimmed with help from the people she trusts most. Born blind with cataracts, Angel continues to thrive thanks to consistent care, patient handling, and generous sponsors who support her lifelong needs.
Other horses, including Gray and Zira, also receive much needed hoof care, easing discomfort and setting them up for healthier movement.
Unexpected Surrenders and New Arrivals
The shelter welcomes two new surrenders, Jasper and Memphis. Their owners wanted them to have a better future and entrusted Horse Plus Humane Society to provide it. With the farrier already on site, the team quickly gets them trimmed and settled, beginning their next chapter with comfort and care.
Veterinary Exams and Adoption Prep
Doc makes his rounds, performing exams, dental work, blood draws and health checks. One horse clears all medical hurdles and even has an adoption appointment scheduled, a hopeful reminder of what good care can lead to.
Not every case is simple. Another newly surrendered mare shows serious breathing issues, highlighting how fragile and complex rescue cases can be.
Saying Goodbye to Hero
One of the most difficult moments of the episode is the loss of Hero. Despite weeks of treatment, her chronic leg condition continues to worsen. After careful consideration of her quality of life, the team makes the compassionate decision to say goodbye.
Hero spent her final weeks gaining weight, receiving love, and knowing kindness. Though her story ends here, her dignity was restored, and she was never alone.
Healing, Training & Daily Progress
Pippa shows encouraging improvement after a shoulder injury, while trainers take groups of horses on trail rides to build confidence and gather valuable insight for future adopters. These everyday moments are a vital part of preparing horses for life beyond the shelter.
The team also celebrates practical wins, including the installation of a new working scale, making health monitoring safer and more accurate.
A Love Story with a Happy Ending
The episode closes on a beautiful note. Sarah introduces Kana, a senior horse rescued from auction in poor condition just months earlier. Now healthy, bright, and full of life, Kana has completely stolen her heart.
After watching his transformation and spending time together, Sarah makes it official. Kana is going home, not far at all, but straight into a forever family of his own.
