First Stop: Quarantine and Critical Care

New arrivals head straight into quarantine, where every animal receives vaccinations, deworming, and full health checks. Some come in battling respiratory infections, others dangerously underweight or sore from neglect.

Swellings are monitored, pain is managed, and progress is tracked day by day. This stage sets the foundation for recovery and keeps the entire herd safe.
One Animal at a Time

Each horse, mule and donkey tells a different story. From eye injuries requiring catheters to abscesses that need draining, the medical team tackles complex cases with patience and precision.

Feeding plans are adjusted, medications are carefully scheduled, and housing is arranged to reduce stress and prevent injury.
No detail is too small when lives are on the line!
Unexpected News and Special Care

Among the new intakes are very young mares confirmed pregnant, including one barely past a year old. These discoveries shift priorities quickly, prompting plans for specialized gestation spaces and long-term monitoring.
It is a sobering reminder of the realities facing horses in the auction pipeline.
Beyond Rescue: Healing Humans Too

Some horses are healthy and steady enough to move into programs supporting veterans and first responders living with PTSD.
Watching rescued horses help people heal adds another layer of meaning to the work and shows how far these animals can come when given a second chance.
The Auction Intake: Where It All Hits Hard

The most emotional moments unfold at the auction itself. The team encounters severe neglect, foundered hooves, blindness and painful injuries.

In one intake alone, 26 equines are rescued. Despite every effort, three are humanely euthanized due to irreversible suffering. These decisions are never easy, but compassion always comes first.
Back at the Shelter: The Road Forward

Once at the shelter, the real work continues. Hoof trims, x-rays, pregnancy checks and behavioral evaluations guide each animal’s next steps.

Some graduate out of quarantine and into pastures. Others begin groundwork toward adoption. Even the youngest rescues, like Half Pint and Ember, show how resilience can bloom with time and care.
Why It Matters

This episode captures the heart of equine rescue. It is about teamwork, veterinary expertise and standing in the gap for animals who have no voice.
Every success is made possible by supporters who believe these lives matter! Because rescue is not just about saving horses. It is about giving them a future.
