Emergency Care and Fragile Recoveries

June, a severely malnourished mare, remains under close watch as the team treats dehydration and constipation caused by long term starvation. Rectal fluids, motility walks and constant monitoring are giving her the best possible chance.
While her energy and appetite are encouraging, her recovery is still delicate, especially with risks to her heart and her remaining eye, which shows signs of anterior uveitis.

Nearby, Panda continues healing from a deep leg laceration. Despite stubborn sedation and a wound that needs daily attention, his weight gain and calmer handling show just how far he has come.
Honey treatments, fly control and future hydrotherapy are helping move him forward.
The Great Wasp Interruption

Because even life saving veterinary care sometimes pauses for an uninvited, flying intruder! A determined wasp briefly took over the treatment room, proving that rescue days are equal parts serious work and unexpected comedy.
Training Progress & Second Chances

Snow’s transformation is one of patience and persistence. Once fearful and reactive, she is learning trust through groundwork, gentle desensitization and positive reinforcement.

From picking up her feet to calmly accepting the hose, Snow is making steady progress and is now available for adoption with an experienced handler ready to continue her journey.
Adoptions That Make It All Worth It

Two special goodbyes brought tears and smiles. Tonka, a high energy former show horse, found a confident adopter who saw his potential and took him home the same day.

Rain, a staff favorite known for her sweet soul, left with a loving family who gave her the happy ending she deserves.
These moments remind everyone why the hard days are worth it.
Heat, Hooves & Hard Work

With Tennessee heat soaring past dangerous levels, the team sprang into action. Cats were moved indoors to air conditioned safety and horses showing signs of heat stress received immediate cooling care.
One mare’s temperature dropped dramatically thanks to fast intervention, a true life saving moment.

Farrier day brought its own challenges. Seven donkeys, many new to hoof care, were trimmed with patience, sedation and skill.
Abscesses were treated, apprentices gained experience, and every donkey walked away more comfortable than before!
Advocacy for Horses Without a Voice

The episode shares a serious fight beyond the barn. Horse Plus Humane Society was removed from Petfinder due to a policy excluding horses rescued from the slaughter pipeline. Despite nearly 20 years on the platform, the rescue now faces a major barrier to finding homes.

With over 17,000 signatures and growing, supporters are rallying behind a petition asking Petfinder to allow exemptions for slaughter bound horses.
The message is simple. Every rescued horse deserves a chance at adoption.
Why This Work Matters

This episode is a powerful reminder that rescue is not just about saving lives. It is about relentless care, hard choices and standing up for animals who cannot speak for themselves. Every treatment, training session and adoption is proof that hope is built one day at a time.
And at Horse Plus, the fight never stops.
