Calico’s Ongoing Battle to Heal

Calico’s leg wounds were closely evaluated and the news was cautiously hopeful but still serious. Her open joint continued leaking fluid and proud flesh was forming, but her body was fighting hard to heal.
Photos were sent to Dr. Lydia, pain medication and antibiotics were adjusted, and careful bandaging continued. The team remained vigilant for any signs of infection or sepsis, knowing that every wrap and medication mattered. As long as Calico stayed comfortable and bright, the fight for her recovery would continue.
Training Glory With Patience & Safety

Next came training time with Glory, a mare who can be unpredictable despite her sweet moments. Using a flag for desensitization, the handler focused on light cues, jaw relaxation and disengaging hindquarters to keep everyone safe.

Each movement was intentional. Ask lightly, reinforce only when needed, and reward the smallest try. Glory handled the session well, proving that trust is built slowly and one calm step at a time.
Jena’s Birthday Party

Jena’s birthday at Horse Plus was a heartwarming celebration of love, care and resilience! Marking a full year in the shelter, she enjoyed a frozen apple-and-carrot cake, a slightly crooked party hat and plenty of gentle ear scratches.
Volunteers pampered her with brushes and cuddles while curious neighbors looked on, making the day as joyful as it was cozy. More than a treat, it was a celebration of her journey, a reminder that at Horse Plus, every member of the team, human or animal, is valued and cherished!
Adoption Meetings & New Beginnings

Adopters arrived to meet kittens and miniature horses, learning how personalities often choose people rather than the other way around. After thoughtful conversations and hands-on introductions, Popcorn and S’mores were officially adopted and scheduled for transport to their new home.

Later, a farrier visiting the property met a friendly feline who made such an impression that she and her companion were adopted on the spot. Sometimes the best matches happen when no one is looking for them.
A Busy Farrier Day With Big Challenges

With three farriers on site, hoof care was in full swing. From tiny minis to wild Mustangs like Panda, every trim required skill, patience and safety precautions. Sedation was used when needed, tools were carefully sharpened, and abscesses were cleaned and treated.
Despite a few tense moments and one handler getting bumped by a mule, nearly every horse on the list was successfully trimmed. It was a long, exhausting, but productive day.

Life Behind the Camera & Beyond Horses

Macy shared what it is like documenting rescue life through audio and video, helping tell the stories that connect supporters to the animals. Horse Plus may focus on equines but cats, dogs, and many other animals also find safety here.
Why This Work Matters

This episode shows the reality of rescue work. Healing is rarely linear. Training takes time. Some days are heavy, others joyful, and many are both.
But every animal is met with patience, skill and compassion, whether they are learning to trust, healing from injury, or heading home for the first time.
That is life at Horse Plus Humane Society!
