Adoption Week Kicks Off With Hope & Heart

One of the first horses in the spotlight is Blaze, a handsome gelding who has captured attention. He stands well for saddling and shows promise, but like many rescue horses, he will benefit from continued training. The staff offers honest guidance, recommending 30 days with a professional trainer before hitting the trails.
And that is what makes these adoptions special. It is not about sending a horse home quickly. It is about making the right match.

When one family feels torn between their hearts and practical advice, the team encourages them to take their time. Falling in love is easy. Making a lifelong commitment deserves careful thought.
The door remains open, with a promise to help them find the perfect fit when the time is right.
Hay Deliveries & Daily Dedication

Behind every adoption is a mountain of daily care. This week, 157 bales of hay are delivered to keep everyone fed and happy. Sunshine, growing grass, and a full barn remind us that rescue work is built on consistency and community support.
Caring for Moms & Babies

Kissimmee, a pregnant mare with a sore foot, gets a thorough checkup. With gentle sedation that is safe for her baby, the veterinary team carefully palpates to monitor the foal’s position and development. The good news: baby is growing and not quite ready to arrive yet.
Patience is part of rescue too. Healthy moms, healthy babies, one careful step at a time.
Training the Next Generation

Young Cherish, rescued from auction earlier this year, is blossoming. After time in the vet barn to gain weight, she is now learning the basics. From leading lessons to gentle desensitization with a flag, her training sessions are short, positive and confidence building.
Baby horses have short attention spans, but with patience and consistency, they grow into trusting partners!
Farrier Day Progress

Farrier day is always busy. Eleven horses receive trims, therapeutic adjustments and specialized care. Ginger continues rehab with careful heel adjustments. Bozeman’s challenging feet are improving step by step. Even the spicy ones are learning that standing tied is part of the process.
Progress is not always dramatic. Sometimes it is simply a horse standing a little calmer than last week.
A Second Chance for Glimmer

One of the most powerful moments this week is welcoming Glimmer home.
Years ago, Glimmer was rescued from the slaughter pipeline and later became connected to efforts exposing abuse in the Big Lick world. After spending time away for his protection, he has now returned to Horse Plus following the passing of his adopter.

The team builds him a brand new pasture, panel by panel. Then comes a full veterinary workup. More than 60 x-rays help evaluate his joints, lungs and overall health. At 20 years old, he shows some normal age related changes but is sound and ready for turnout. Because of his history of breathing issues, living outdoors in fresh air will help him thrive.

Watching Glimmer step into his expansive new pasture for the first time is a reminder of why this work matters. From stacks and chains to green grass and open space, his journey has come full circle.
Doing What Is Right

Not every adoption ends with a trailer leaving the driveway. One previous adopter makes the difficult but responsible decision to return a mare who needs more training than expected. That is not failure. That is accountability. The team will reassess, retrain and find the right path forward for her.
Meanwhile, other horses do head home, adoption photos are snapped and new chapters begin!
The Heart of Rescue

Adoption week is more than paperwork and pictures. It is education. It is honest conversations. It is medical care, farrier visits, training sessions and late evenings finishing fence panels.
It is choosing what is best for the horse every single time.

And as the sun sets over the pasture and Glimmer stretches his legs in fresh grass, one thing is clear: every bale of hay, every x-ray, every patient conversation is worth it.
Because heroes do not always wear capes.
Sometimes they carry lead ropes.
