A New Arrival & Ear-resistible Fashion

We started our morning on the best possible note: a healthy new baby boy! Candy’s foal arrived yesterday and he is already full of spice, cantering circles around his mama. After a full “baby check,” he’s got a clean bill of health and is ready for some sunshine.

Speaking of sunshine, we’re working hard on a special treatment for one of our residents with sensitive ears. After removing four ounces of discharge from his ears (poor guy!), we’re trying to figure out if he’ll tolerate a stylish green bonnet to protect him from sunburn.
If he decides the “fashion statement” isn’t for him, he’ll be switching to a night-owl schedule to keep those ears safe!
Ginger’s “Sticky” Situation

Our sweet Ginger has been a bit of a rebel lately. She managed to pull her hoof extension off not once, but twice over the weekend! Not one to be outsmarted, the team sourced special adhesive and reattached it with extra reinforcement.

Despite the occasional setbacks, Ginger has come light years ahead of where she started. Her tendon healing is progressing, and she is beginning to place weight more naturally on her leg.
Sometimes recovery is a roller coaster, but Ginger keeps moving forward.
The Big 23: Auction Night Heroes

Then came the main event: auction night. The tension was high as the team placed their bets on how many horses we’d be bringing home. While the guesses ranged from 14 to 52, the final number was a life-changing 23.
Thanks to your incredible support, we were able to outbid the kill buyers and secure safety for a broad spectrum of horses: big, small, draft and mini!

In total, 118 x-rays were taken in one day to evaluate injuries and long-term conditions. After the intense intake process, the horses were settled into quarantine pastures and stalls where they could decompress.

Some immediately began grazing and relaxing in their new environment. Others cautiously explored their surroundings while the team monitored behavior, appetite and signs of illness.
Why These Rescues Matter

Many of the horses saved this week were older animals whose owners likely struggled to make end-of-life decisions. Instead of receiving proper care, they were passed along the auction circuit where traders and kill buyers often purchase them for slaughter.
Rescuing these horses gives them something they may not have had in a long time:
safety, medical care and dignity.

Some will recover and move on to loving homes. Others may spend their remaining years peacefully at the shelter.
But every one of them now has a chance.
23 Lives Changed

From a healthy newborn foal taking his first steps to 23 horses rescued from auction, it was a powerful reminder of what compassion and support can accomplish.
Every rescue, every medical exam and every second chance happens because people care enough to help.
And for those 23 horses, their story is only just beginning.
