What a week! From the emotional highs of our 20th anniversary celebration to the high-stakes adrenaline of the auction floor, the team at Horse Plus Humane Society has been moving at a full gallop. We’ve seen rain, sunshine and a whole lot of miracles. Here’s the inside scoop on everything that went down!

A Milestone Celebration: 20 Years of Hope
We kicked things off by celebrating two decades of rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming horses. The energy was electric as supporters from across the country joined us at the shelter, with some even driving 10 hours from Chicago just to say hello!
Despite a sudden Tennessee downpour that sent everyone scrambling for cover, the spirit of the day remained unsoaked. We hosted tours of our on-site hospital and intake facilities, giving fans a front-row seat to the life-saving work their donations support.
During the event, we auctioned off unique memorabilia, including a pair of well-worn boots signed by our CEO that had been turned into a beautiful bouquet. Fans finally got to meet the stars of our videos, like Glimmer and Thunder, in person.
We also premiered our 20 year history video, and with nearly 500 people watching live on YouTube, the love was felt worldwide.
Straight to the Frontlines: The July Auction
As soon as the party ended, it was back to business. We headed to the local auction with one goal: save as many lives as possible from the slaughter pipeline.
Our team, including Dr. Nancy and our dedicated media crew, braved the heat and the late-night hours. After some intense bidding and a last-minute plea from an auction worker to save one more, we are thrilled to announce that 20 horses were rescued!
The Road to Recovery Begins
While we are celebrating their safety, many of our new arrivals have a long road ahead. Our initial assessments revealed that our sweet Appaloosa, Thunder, is struggling with equine recurrent uveitis. We are working closely with experts to ensure he doesn’t suffer.
We also rescued a young horse with a severe birth defect known as Wry Nose or Rhinos. It’s one of the more extreme cases we’ve seen, and we are already consulting with dental specialists to provide the best possible care.
From swollen eyes to leg jabs sustained during transport, Dr. Nancy has been busy administering pain relief and cleaning wounds for the rest of the herd.
Hope in Every Hoofbeat
For many of the rescued horses, this is where a new chapter begins. After intake and evaluation, they step out into green pastures… safe, cared for and finally given the chance they deserve.
Watching them run free is a powerful reminder that every long day, every hard decision and every ounce of effort is worth it!
Because of you, that second chance is possible. With over a thousand animals already helped this year and counting, this mission continues to grow, fueled by the support of those who watch, share, donate and believe.
Twenty years in, the work is far from over. But with this incredible community behind it, the future has never looked brighter!
