A Morning of Hooves & Hope

With Dr. Nancy away, the team carefully selected horses they hoped could be trimmed without sedation. Some were new faces, like Little Joe, fresh out of quarantine and still figuring things out.

Others, like Cookie, were finally strong enough for their very first trim after battling through serious health struggles.

There were small wins everywhere…nervous horses learning to trust, overdue hooves finally getting attention and even a donkey named Romeo proving to be one of the best patients of the day.
Moments like these remind the team why they do what they do: progress doesn’t have to be big to matter.
Highs, Lows &… A Brand New Ride!

We have some huge news. Thanks to your incredible response to our recent deficit appeal, we’ve managed to close the gap from a 30% donation deficit down to 18%!

In the middle of it all came a powerful reminder of community support: a new rescue truck, made possible by donors stepping up during a tough financial season.
Nicknamed Hi Ho Silver, this truck isn’t just a vehicle, it’s a lifeline. From daily supply runs to urgent rescues, it’s ready to carry more horses to safety.
The Heartbreak of the Auction

This week’s auction was a heavy one. We headed out with a mission to save as many equines as possible, but the reality on the ground was a sobering reminder of why we do this work.
The atmosphere was thick with the silent stories of animals who had been pushed to their absolute limits and seeing their exhaustion firsthand never gets any easier.

One of the most devastating rescues was a “Big Lick” victim, a stallion in truly horrific shape. His tail tendons had been surgically cut, a cruel and outdated practice used in certain show circles to force an unnatural carriage and his front legs were completely “blown out” from the massive weight of training stacks.

He was so weak he kept collapsing in the pen. We didn’t waste a second, rushing him straight to an emergency veterinarian to get him the intensive pain management and evaluation he so desperately needs.

We also stepped in for a mare who had been unfairly labeled as “aggressive.” Her previous owner had kept her tied to a tree for days without a drop of water, claiming she was dangerous to handle.
The truth, however, was written in her sunken frame and pained stance; she wasn’t mean, she was just starving, severely dehydrated and suffering from a painful case of founder. Once she realized she was safe, her “aggression” vanished, replaced by a quiet, weary relief.

By the time the final gavel fell, we had secured a future for 20 precious lives. With 18 horses and 2 donkeys now safely tucked into our trailers, they are officially clear of the slaughter pipeline.
They’ve had their last day of fear and their last night of neglect, and they are finally heading toward the “new lease on life” they have always deserved.
A Piggy Happy Ending

It wasn’t just about the equines! We successfully rehomed a sweet female pig to our friends at Outlaw Rescue and Rehab. After a bit of a struggle involving some muscle and a sturdy board, she’s off to a farm where she can live out her days (and likely raise the piglets we suspect are on the way!).
Why Rescue Matters

This episode is a powerful, raw reminder of what rescue truly looks like. It is often messy, physically exhausting and deeply emotional.
It is a world built on small victories and balanced by heartbreaking losses, fueled by long days, late nights and teamwork that simply never quits.

But through the grit and the fatigue, the heart of this mission is hope. Every trim, every mile driven in the new truck, and every life saved, or gently laid to rest, is a vital part of a much bigger purpose.
We are here to give these animals the professional care, quiet dignity and unconditional love they have always deserved.
None of this would be possible without our incredible community of supporters. Because of you, that mission keeps moving forward, and we continue to fight for them, one hoofbeat at a time!
