Horse Shelter Heroes – S4E27

At Horse Plus Humane Society, every day is full of life-saving care, happy reunions and a little bit of chaos. This week’s “Horse Shelter Heroes” episode gave us a behind-the-scenes look at our team in action, from adorable puppies to gentle horses getting the care they deserve.

Puppy Love & Moving On

We started the morning with an intake session for a literal pile of cuteness! Donut, Hans and Dexter were absolute rockstars during their check-ups. After some brave faces for their vaccinations and a few “yummy” flea preventatives, these three boys headed off to a wonderful foster home through High Forest.
Seeing them trot (and occasionally get carried!) toward their future is the best fuel for our team.
Glimmer’s Great Progress

Our sweet boy Glimmer is proof that patience pays off! He’s been battling persistent ear warts for a while. Even after a month without treatment while our team was away, Dr. Nancy was thrilled to see very little regrowth.
The medication is working! We’re getting him back on a weekly schedule to kick those warts for good. He’s such a “love bug” through it all.
The Farrier Chronicles: Mary’s “Hangnail”

Farrier day is always busy, but Mary gave us a real challenge. She managed to tear off a special shoe and a good chunk of her heel bulb out in the pasture. Think of it like a giant, painful hangnail, but on a horse.

Dr. Nancy and the farrier team got her stabilized with a bar shoe for now, but she’s headed for surgery soon to remove the unstable tissue.
It’s a delicate job, but it’s the only way to make sure she’s “sound” and safe for the long run.
Golden Years for the Arabians

We had a very special session for our “Arabian Squad”, a group of related horses mostly in their 20s. They’ve been together their entire lives, and we have some exciting news: a potential adopter is interested in taking all of them together!
Giving these seniors a soft landing where they can stay with their family is exactly why we do what we do.
A Perfect Match for Turnip

The highlight of the week? Turnip has found her person!
After a few different visitors, we finally found the “perfect fit.” Her new mom is a long-time follower of our mission and has big plans to start Turnip under saddle and eventually train her to be a barrel horse.
Watching her load up perfectly into her new trailer was the perfect ending to a busy week.
A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Team

We truly couldn’t keep our doors open or our animals thriving without the tireless hands of our incredible volunteers and staff! Whether they are power-washing the barns until they sparkle, assisting with Badger’s successful castration, or spending quiet moments grooming a senior horse, their impact is felt in every corner of the shelter.
To everyone who spends their time in the muck with us: thank you for being the backbone of this rescue and making second chances possible!
