From heartbreaking goodbyes to the pure joy of a “forever home” tail-wag, it has been a whirlwind week here at Horse Plus Humane Society. Whether it’s a 2,000-pound draft horse or a tiny kitten, every soul that enters our gates gets our full heart.

Owen Finds His Person!
We kicked off the week with the best kind of news: Owen has been adopted! His new family originally came to see Toretto, but they felt an instant connection with Owen. Despite some vision challenges and a bit of past trauma, Owen proved that there is a perfect match for every horse.
Seeing him load up for his new life is why we do what we do!
The Reality of Buyout Days
We met a gorgeous 27-year-old Percheron stallion with a spirit as white as a unicorn but a body failing him. With severe, incurable leg pain (DSLD) and an inability to safely undergo surgery at his age, we provided him with the “Last Act of Kindness.”
He passed with dignity, full of hay and free from pain.
On a brighter note, we welcomed several youngsters, including a spunky 2-year-old mule and a sweet draft mare with a unique spinal curve.
While she may never be a riding horse, she is comfortable and happy, and we are cautiously optimistic about her future as a beloved pasture pet!
Not Just Horses! (The “Plus” in Our Name)
Our surgery suite was buzzing this week!
A huge thanks to Jody from Dog Mobile K9 Spa for pampering our recent rescues. Miss Chanel and Ember look and smell like brand-new dogs!
Spay/Neuter Success! From Sassy the dog to Ally the kitten, we’ve been busy clearing the path for adoptions. Chanel also had some X-rays to check on her hips, we’re making sure she’s 100% ready for her next chapter.
Community Spirit & “Relocating Resources”
We couldn’t do this alone! A massive shout-out to Harold and Sandy, two retired electricians from Ohio who stopped by to volunteer their time.
Thank you both for dedicating your time and skills to help the shelter, it truly means so much to the animals and the entire team!
We also got our trusty old tractor back in action thanks to some honest local mechanics, saving us thousands of dollars that can now go directly to animal care!

Being on the front lines means seeing the best and worst of humanity. We see the neglect but we also see the incredible transformation that happens with a little bit of medicine and a lot of love.
