Whew, it is a scorching 105 degrees out here at the shelter but the heat can’t stop the good vibes! This week’s episode of Horse Plus Humane Society was packed with heartwarming adoptions, behind the scenes rescue work, and plenty of unforgettable moments.

Ciara Finds Her Forever Home
One of the biggest highlights of the episode was Ciara finding her forever family. After meeting potential adopters from Illinois, the sweet spotted mare quickly stole their hearts. Despite trailer troubles and the summer heat, the family stayed patient and determined to bring Ciara home safely.
By the end of the day, Ciara officially had a forever home waiting for her!
Vet Ward Updates: Bullets, Bubble Baths & Big Wins
Over in the vet ward, things are always moving at Mach 5. Here is the latest scoop on our patients!
Our team is keeping a super close eye on Catori. While her lungs were clear a month ago, the vet team picked up some increased lung sounds today.
Her temperature is dropping nicely but we’re continuing to monitor her closely before she heads out to any new pastures.
The Miracle Kitty! Dr. Gina felt something unusual during an exam on a recently neutered clinic cat. After taking some X-rays, we discovered a piece of metal, a bullet, lodged right in his neck, terrifyingly close to his jugular vein and carotid artery!
Amazingly, it wasn’t bothering him but to be safe, the team successfully operated and got it out. Talk about a lucky cat!
We also prepped a group of rescue cats heading out to PetSense and PetSmart to find their forever families. A few of them, including a sweet 13-year-old fluffy senior named Lola and a little guy named Baby Boy, have been sneezing with slightly goopy eyes.
The vets suspect it’s just lingering irritation from the smoky conditions they came from but otherwise, they are healthy, happy and their adoption rates are through the roof!
Making Waves in Washington D.C.
Our leadership team just wrapped up a monumental trip to Washington D.C. for some heavy-hitting lobbying efforts. In the past, we’ve shared standard updates, but this time, Horse Plus brought data no one else has.
As the primary organization investigating recent diphtheria cases and equine welfare issues, we had lawmakers absolutely spellbound. We are seeing real, tangible open-mindedness to change up on Capitol Hill and we could not be more thrilled for what this means for horses nationwide!
Busy, Eventful, and… A Podcast?!
From emotional adoptions to busy rescue days and advocacy efforts in Washington, this episode truly showed how every day at Horse Plus brings new challenges and victories. The running joke about launching a staff podcast also gave fans plenty of laughs and honestly, it might just become a fan favorite if it ever happens!
