Meet Jolene, Our New Trail Guide
We rarely see horses come into the shelter who have had a picture-perfect life, but beautiful Jolene is the ultimate exception. Surrendered by a loving owner, this gorgeous girl is staying right here at Horse Plus to become our permanent shelter horse and guide.
Because our trained riding horses get adopted so quickly, we have never had a consistent, confident mount to help our younger, greener horses on the trail. Jolene is changing the game! She is already acting as the brave leader taking our younger residents on their very first trail rides which is going to help them get adopted even faster. Welcome to the family, Jolene!
Theos’ Journey Comes to an End
The veterinary team continued evaluating Theos, the large draft horse who arrived with significant mobility issues. X-rays revealed extensive arthritic changes, shoulder abnormalities, and other painful conditions affecting his quality of life. Despite aggressive pain management, his discomfort remained severe, and his condition showed little improvement.
After careful consideration and consultation, the difficult decision was made to provide Theos with the Last Act of Kindness. While heartbreaking, the team ensured he was treated with compassion and dignity every step of the way.
Rescue Efforts Continue for Abandoned Dogs
The team returned for a second day of attempting to rescue three remaining abandoned dogs after successfully bringing one dog, Gracie, to safety.
Although the dogs proved difficult to catch, staff carefully monitored their condition and determined they appeared healthy and were maintaining their weight. The rescue effort is far from over and the team continues working on a plan to safely bring the remaining dogs into care.

Our handler Payton, who hadn’t ridden bareback since her childhood horse, hopped right onto Sago Lily for only the pony’s second time under a bareback pad. Sago Lily handled it like an absolute champion! She is willing, sweet and trail-ready. She would be the perfect dream pony for a young boy or girl to grow up with.
