Rescue, a small word with a massive impact, especially when it comes to the lives of animal. It signifies a proactive step towards altering the destiny of animals in dire need. We're here to delve into the multifaceted world of animal rescue and highlight some of our key programs that make these lifesaving efforts possible. When donations are made to our organization the funds go to help Rescue, Shelter and Protect horses. Let's spend a moment together understanding the intricacies of Rescue.
donate The Buy-Out program is a critical lifeline for horses, rescuing them from the distressing slaughter pipeline. By intervening before these animals face an auction, we can prevent their sale for slaughter, extending our help to horses from the public, as well as those from horse traders. The Buy-Out not only safeguards horses from daunting auctions but does so at a cost typically lower than rescue organizations would incur at auctions. And there's no need to fret about horse traders or Kill Buyers inflating the price to squander donor funds. The program also prevents auction houses from profiting off these transactions, providing a compassionate alternative to auctions. Donations go directly to aiding horses, ensuring they're diverted from the slaughter pipeline, without a penny being wasted on auction house commissions.
Auction Rescues are a critical lifeline for horses on the brink of heading to the slaughter house, as the majority of equines destined for slaughter are sold at auctions. Despite the challenges posed by kill buyers and horse traders who deliberately inflate bids to drain rescue funds it's important to note that auction houses also benefit from these higher bids. However, rescuing horses during auctions effectively removes them from the slaughter pipeline. Some traders resort to drugging horses to mask lameness and poor behavior. Despite these hurdles, auction rescues remain a powerful tool in preventing horses from continuing down the slaughter pipeline.
The distressing task of assisting law enforcement with cruelty cases is a harsh reality we face on a regular basis. The process often requires months of painstaking efforts just to secure a seizure warrant to remove the animals. The sad truth is, many animals don't make it due to prolonged neglect and starvation. We often find deceased animals during seizures. Most counties in our local area lack the funds to shelter seized horses, a factor that often forces horses to stay in neglectful homes. We step in to help law enforcement, from building cases, gathering evidence, aiding in animal seizures and their care during court proceedings, all at no cost to the county. Our work heavily relies on public support to care for seized animals during often lengthy court procedures. Despite the protracted process, we believe it's crucial to stand up for the horses whose owners have failed them the most.
We rescue horses who have been abandoned, whether it be their owners dumping them or a horse getting out and straying away from its home. Loose horses pose a threat to themselves, with risks of roadside accidents, entanglement in old wire fences, or being picked up by horse traders and taken to auctions. Our facility steps in to rescue and shelter these stray horses, making efforts to locate their original owners. One horse we rescued from a long side of the road in an abandoned case was literally dumped with a note tied around its neck saying it needed a new home.
