Can You Help?
On Tuesday, we are doing a Buy-Out to rescue horses from the slaughter pipeline. We received notification about a group of 30 horses in terrible condition, mostly severely underweight, that we can intercept before they are sent to another auction.
Sadly, seeing emaciated horses at auctions is a common occurrence. Horses in the slaughter pipeline are frequently moved between auctions across the United States. It’s not unusual to see horses with evidence of multiple past auction tags, indicated by residual glue or tag fragments. These horses are utterly exhausted from their time in the slaughter pipeline, as they wait to go to yet another auction, with your help we can prevent that from happening, we can save them together!
The constant movement between auctions subjects these horses to neglect, abuse, dehydration, and starvation. The photos of this particular group reveal multiple auction tags, indicating they have been in the slaughter pipeline for an extended period.
The slaughter pipeline is extensive. We have rescued horses from opposite ends of the state and traced their journey through it. It is devastating to witness how horses are continuously transported within this system, facilitated by numerous horse slaughter auctions throughout the United States, which collectively form this cruel pipeline.
The criminal condition of horses in the slaughter pipeline involves significant illegal activity. These horses are the true victims. When animal cruelty is reported at an auction, the horse traders often deflect responsibility by stating they recently acquired the horse at auction and hoped someone could help it by bringing it to yet another auction. This is devastating, leaving rescuers as the only ones trying to save these abused animals, as law enforcement and government agencies fail to intervene. That leaves it up to us, and you, to do what we can to save them.
These horses desperately need help, and there are a lot of them. We really want to say yes to them and bring them into Horse Plus Humane Society, but 30 horses is a lot of horses, we need your help to say yes! If we had to say no to them because we didn’t get enough donations to save them, no doubt they will head to another auction and another and another, most will probably die in an auction yard somewhere because of the prolonged neglect that they have endured within the slaughter pipeline.
