Last night was a very busy auction rescue for our team. We were able to save seven horses from the slaughter pipeline, saving them from becoming a statistic on the USDA’s daily slaughter export reports. Yesterday the USDA reported that 71 horses were exported into Mexico for the purpose of slaughter. Thanks to your support we rescued seven horses that won’t be on the USDA export report.
Once the horses arrived back at our shelter, our veterinarian examined each one. The horses were given vaccines, deworming, electrolytes and scanned for microchips. 2 of the horses we rescued have microchips and we are currently trying to track their microchips. Unfortunately, the microchips were never registered in the owner’s name, and the microchips are from a different company than we use. We will continue searching in hopes to find the previous owners. One of the horses we rescued was a used up Amish buggy horse. His legs were completely done in and there was nothing we could do but love him and say goodbye. We are thankful that his suffering is over and he wasn’t shipped into Mexico for slaughter.

After their 30 days of quarantine is up and they have been evaluated by the trainer they will be looking for new loving homes. Help us name them, click here!
