The Auction Rescue
As storms roll in, the team heads to a packed auction with a clear goal: save as many horses as possible. Thanks to donor support, 22 horses are rescued directly from slaughter buyers. Among them are senior horses, minis, a pregnant mare, and several horses in severe pain. Emergency medications are administered on site to keep the most vulnerable horses comfortable through the night.
Intake, Healing and Hard Decisions
The following morning begins early with a full intake process. Each horse is examined by the veterinary and farrier teams, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed and assessed for future care. While most begin their journey toward recovery, a few are suffering beyond repair. In these cases, the team makes the compassionate decision to provide a peaceful goodbye.
A Hopeful Ending
The episode closes with a beautiful adoption. Dolly, a gentle blind mare, finds a new home at Blue Sky Ranch in Kansas, where she will help children and adults through equine assisted therapy. Her story is a powerful reminder of why this work matters.
