The auction is just a few days away. Horses at auctions are very stressed, some of them have been in the slaughter pipeline for some time already, being shipped from auction to auction, from yard to yard. Every horse at auction has lost everything they knew, everything that made them feel safe. The stress and emotional trauma they go through puts a strain on their mind and body. When we rescue them they are worn out, their spirits are broken, most have given up. It’s as if they know they are at the end. But what happens when we rescue them? We wish we could tell them they are safe now, everything will be fine. The auction gets over late at night and we get them settled into pens so they can rest for a few hours before being transported to our shelter the next morning.

Once at the shelter they probably understand that something has changed. They are surrounded by our intake team, including veterinarians, a farrier, vet techs, and volunteers who help them feel loved and wanted. Every horse is seen by the vet and they are given vaccinations, antibiotics, microchipped, dewormed, and whatever else they need. One thing that is extremely important for these auction rescue horses is, literally, a vacation. They are exhausted and have been so worn down by the slaughter pipeline. Our quarantine is a time for them to relax, heal, and just be a horse. As you can see from this photo, these horses, who were rescued last month at auction, are truly loving their life.

23 days ago these horses were rescued from auction. You can see the transformation that has happened in such a short time. We always get lots of people wanting to adopt the horses right after the auction, but they need time to heal physically and emotionally. We give them a 30 day quarantine unless a veterinarian advises otherwise. Here are just a few of the horses we rescued from the auction last month. Please enjoy these amazing transformations.
Grace was so sad, she had a huge scrape on her face. She had little spirit left in her.

Only 23 days later she looks like a different horse.
Ranger was so scared at the auction. He didn’t even want our rescue team to get near him, he was so afraid of what would happen if anyone got close. You could see the fear in his eyes.

Now 23 days later, his emotional transformation is absolutely amazing.

Rusty was sad and scared. You could tell he didn’t understand why he was at the auction. He was hungry and thirsty, but he didn’t think anyone cared about him.

23 days later Rusty is sleek and beautiful. An amazing transformation!

Hope was so scared at the auction. She is a young miniature horse and she looked around the auction yard wide eyed. She didn’t understand at all what was going on.

Now 23 days later she is just happy following her friends around the pasture and being a happy little horse.

Lily was so confused at the auction. Her hip bones were protruding, she was scared and bewildered. She had been recently separated from her mother, who most likely was shipped directly to slaughter. Kill buyers often sort out small and skinny horses at auction yards, and purchase bigger horses for their loads.

23 days later Lily is filling out and absolutely loves people. She has been through a lot in her short life, and if we had not rescued her at the auction, her life would have been drastically different.

When the quarantine is over they will be available for adoption. It’s always hard for us getting attached to these horses and then saying goodbye when they are adopted, but we are so happy that we could help them in their transition from slaughter pipeline victims to loving homes. But we can’t do that without your financial support!
We have raised enough funds to rescue and care for 2 horses at this upcoming auction that is only 5 days away. Please help us make more amazing transformations in the lives of slaughter pipeline horses, donate right now.
