We just want to give you all a quick update on the horses that we rescued from the auction last night. It’s been a very long two days but we wanted to let you meet each and every horse. After their initial photos at the auction yard this morning, they were loaded up into multiple trailers and hit the road. They all arrived safely at our shelter and were given the help they needed by our Veterinarian and Intake Team. You can see each horse we rescue last night at this link: October Auction Rescue | 19 Saved
We are asking for name suggestions for them so please check out that link and like and/or suggest a name in the comments for the horses. After arriving at our shelter they all were examed by the vet and some X-rays done to determine the best plan for each horse. Sadly there were five horses that needed the Last Act of Kindness, due to chronic medical conditions.

One had a broken fetlock, another had a broken hip, one had very bad DSLD and had a messed up hip, another was very old with hip problems, skinny and sick, the Vet was afraid something was wrong internally, while another had an old painful fetlock injury. All of these horses were in a lot of pain, and sadly the Last Act of Kindness was the only option for them. We are relieved that we can provide the humane ending for horses that should have never been dumped at an auction.

We strive to give each horse the best care possible when they arrive at our shelter. The horses received 5-Way, West Nile, Strangles, and Rabies vaccine, given dewormer, electrolytes, antibiotics, were microchipped and given anything they needed. Now they are all settled into our big 90′ by 36′ enclosed barn for the night.

They have fresh hay and clean water, and are out of the stormy weather, staying warm and dry. The horses will be in quarantine for 30 days, then they will be evaluated by our trainer and can be made available for adoption. If you are interested in adopting one of these horses, please email adoptions@horsehumane.org. These horses would not be here if it wasn’t for YOU! We just want to say a special thank you to each person who donated to make this rescue mission possible. You are truly horse heroes.
