Adoption Successes Galore!
Our recent adoption event was a smashing success! A total of 26 horses found loving homes, and the excitement didn’t stop there. Throughout the week, promising adoption applications kept rolling in, including some for donkeys, proving that every animal deserves a chance at a forever family.
From sweet Sadie, who won hearts with her playful spirit, to gentle Misty, whose long, smooth trot made her irresistible, our team worked tirelessly to match each horse with the perfect home. By the end of the week, we celebrated 38 adoptions in total, transforming lives for both our animals and the lucky families who brought them home.
The Cost of Care: Investing in Our Horses’ Well-Being
Rescue work isn’t cheap. We recently received a vet bill of over $6,700 to care for 50 horses from an auction. From X-rays to Coggins tests, every penny is an investment in their health and future. Despite the exhausting week of an adoption event where 26 horses found new homes, we continue to work tirelessly on applications for our remaining horses, including seniors and pregnant donkeys, eager to find loving families.
Even newly surrendered horses like Fabio got a second chance at a loving home, showing the power of patience, persistence, and a little bit of heroism. And of course, every rescue adventure comes with its fair share of baths, grooming, and “cookie time” because no horse can resist treats and some extra love!

Thanks to our amazing supporters, the shelter has been overflowing with care packages from our Amazon wishlist, everything from essential supplements for skinny horses to mountains of cookies. These thoughtful contributions make a tangible difference in the day-to-day lives of our animals, helping them thrive while they wait for adoption.
Heartfelt Heroes: Rescues Big and Small
Rescue work at Horse Plus is full of highs and lows. Some animals, like Sybil, faced challenges that couldn’t be overcome despite our best efforts. Saying goodbye is never easy, but knowing we kept her safe from a life-ending fate at the auction reminds us why this work matters so deeply.
Life at the shelter isn’t just about horses. This week, we rescued a tiny kitten abandoned on the side of the road.
Flea-ridden and dirty, the little one received a warm bath, flea treatment and a cozy place to snuggle. Moments like these remind us that our mission goes beyond horses, we rescue all animals in need!
Every adoption, vet visit, and act of care brings joy and purpose. From majestic horses finding forever homes, to small donkeys winning hearts, to tiny kittens learning to trust again, each rescue story is a testament to what we can achieve together.
