Standing Up for the Voiceless at the Big Lick Event
The episode opens in Columbia, Tennessee, where the team joins a peaceful protest against the Big Lick Tennessee Walking Horse show, an event infamous for using painful, abusive practices to exaggerate a horse’s gait.
Horses at these shows endure chemicals on their pasterns, heavy chains, and deliberate pain-inducing techniques that cause them to flinch with every step. Law enforcement circles the area as the team stands strong, determined to shine a light on cruelty and be the voice these horses don’t have.
Adoptions Are Back — By Appointment Only
With COVID-19 closures finally lifting, the shelter is buzzing again. Applications have been pouring in, and the team is hard at work processing each one. We carefully check backgrounds, verify photos, and make sure each horse goes to a safe, loving home.
One of the highlights comes when Sarah gets to call an adopter who’s been waiting anxiously for an update. Hearing the adopter’s excitement when she learns she’s officially approved is the kind of moment that fuels the entire team.
Caring, Training, and Watching Our Horses Thrive
At Horse Plus Humane Society, we had important vet visits and training sessions that reminded us why we do this work.
Erin had a minor eye issue, and the vet confirmed it was just a scratch. It was a relief to see him healthy and comfortable again.
Amber had his very first ride and handled it calmly and curiously. With guidance from our team, he showed how smart and willing he is to learn.
Copper also got a refresher ride and proved once again how responsive and gentle he can be.
Every checkup, every training session, and every small moment of growth shows the resilience of these horses. Seeing them thrive and trust again is the heart of what we do, and we are grateful to be part of their journey.
