From the start, the team is knee-deep in daily chores, feeding horses and managing the not-so-glamorous realities of shelter life.

But the hard work quickly turns into celebration as several special horses head off to new homes.

Dahlia, a sweet mare with one eye and a harmless soft tissue lump on her leg, finds her perfect match after x-rays confirm she is sound and ready for her next chapter.

Hickory and Lady, both fully blind and deeply bonded, are adopted together, proving that disabilities do not diminish a horse’s ability to love or be loved.

And then there is Phoenix, a partially blind and deaf senior gelding who travels five hours to his forever home, reminding everyone why this work matters so much!

Between adoptions, the medical team stays busy. Abscesses are treated, horses are evaluated for ulcers and respiratory issues, and several gelding procedures are carefully planned and performed.

Even when equipment challenges pop up, like an uncooperative x-ray machine, the team adapts and keeps the horses’ well-being front and center.

The episode also highlights important improvements happening around the shelter! New Nelson waterers are installed with concrete bases and winter-ready planning, ensuring horses have reliable access to clean water when temperatures drop.
These behind-the-scenes upgrades are essential to keeping hundreds of horses healthy year-round.

Rehabilitation and training are another major focus. Diamond, an owner surrender, begins the process of retraining and rebuilding confidence.

Other horses show visible improvement after medical treatment, a powerful reminder that patience and proper care can change everything.

Throughout it all, the staff share an important message. Blind, deaf or medically complex horses are not broken.
They are capable, adaptable and incredibly rewarding companions!

Time and again, this episode proves that when given understanding and opportunity, special needs horses thrive.

Add in community support from around the world, dedicated volunteers and even a few cats along for the ride, and this episode beautifully captures the heart of Horse Plus Humane Society.
It is messy, exhausting, joyful and deeply meaningful work…
And every adoption makes it all worth it!
