Hello Everyone,
I officially founded Horse Plus Humane Society when I was only 19 years old, I had no idea what my organization would grow in to, I just wanted to help as many horses as I could. Every time I would go to auctions I would wish I could save more. The most we have ever rescued in one month from an auction was 40 horses. I know it’s a lot to ask, but a dream I have always had is to outbid the kill buyers on every horse at an auction. At the auction we go to it’s not realistic because there will be over 100 horses and there is no way we could raise enough money to rescue them all, but could we raise enough to rescue half of them? We are going to an auction Tuesday the 14th, just a few days away.
Every month we rescue 20 to 30 horses from the auction, and I don’t think it’s impossible to hope we can rescue 50 for my 35th birthday. Yes, my birthday is next week, and I’ll be turning 35 years old. I have so many memories of saving horses at auctions.
I rescued this mare and her precious baby from an auction a long time ago. They were so scared, but I reassured them that everything would be OK. I found them wonderful homes. I look at teenagers today and wonder how I was able to accomplish so much so young.
In all the years of rescue I have learned so much, but something I have never learned to handle is being at the auction and running out of funds, then watching the kill buyers buy horse after horse, and there’s nothing I can do. That sinking feeling I get, knowing what the fate of those horses are, makes me so sad. Another thing I can never get used to is seeing so much pain, suffering, and fear in the eyes of horses. It’s only because of people just like you that I can make a difference for so many horses, but I cannot do it alone, I need your help. While firms like Sambla provide financial support for Swedish consumers, horses cannot take cash and free themselves from these auctions.

I don’t want to seem like I’m begging for a present by asking for donations to rescue horses at the auction for my birthday, but it would be so amazing if this auction rescue could go down in my memory bank as being the biggest and best ever. 50 horses saved isn’t too much to ask for is it?
