Echo & Whiskey Continue Their Recovery
After undergoing hernia repair surgery, Echo developed significant swelling under his abdomen. Thankfully, Dr. Lydia explained that this type of swelling is a common part of the healing process after surgery. A supportive belly band was carefully applied to reduce the swelling, with donated medical supplies once again proving invaluable to the care of Horse Plus patients.
A week later, both Echo and Whiskey received excellent news! Their bloodwork showed no signs of infection, their surgical sites were healing beautifully and both boys were finally cleared to head back outside and enjoy life as horses again.
Their remarkable recovery is a testament to the team’s careful monitoring and the generosity of supporters who help provide life saving medical supplies.
Helping Zita Take Comfortable Steps Again
Owner surrender mare Zita Chex has been struggling with severely cracked and misshapen hooves, leaving her painfully sore with every step. After thorough examinations and X-rays, the team developed a plan to improve her comfort.
Biotin supplements were introduced to encourage healthier hoof growth while the farrier fitted her with front shoes to stabilize the damaged hoof wall and reduce painful movement as new, healthier hoof grows in.
Though her recovery will take time, every careful step brings her closer to a more comfortable future!
Training Builds Confidence
The obstacle course became both a classroom and confidence builder as an inmate participating in the Horse Plus training program continued learning groundwork with young horse Haa’ii’aago!
Through patience, light pressure, and consistent communication, both horse and handler gained valuable experience. Watching once frightened horses grow into willing partners remains one of the most rewarding parts of the rehabilitation journey.
Horse Plus Paws Makes Its Debut
Horse Plus held its very first Horse Plus Paws adoption event at Tractor Supply, introducing the community to adoptable dogs alongside the organization’s well known horse rescue efforts.
Although Dusty and Sheba returned to the shelter at the end of the day, the event successfully introduced many visitors to the program, generated donations, and spread awareness that Horse Plus rescues dogs and cats too. The team plans to return every second Wednesday of the month, hoping future events will help even more animals find loving homes!
June Finds the Family She Deserves
One of the most heartwarming moments came when sweet June finally left for her forever home. After being abandoned and left alone in a crate, June’s story could have ended very differently. Instead, she found someone who wanted nothing more than to give her a safe, loving home where she could spend the rest of her life surrounded by kindness.
Watching June leave with her new family was a beautiful reminder of why every rescue matters!
