A Surprise Call… and an Urgent Rescue Mission
While some of our team was on well-deserved vacation, a phone call changed everything. A dedicated volunteer, already at an auction “just to look,” spotted horses in desperate need. Without hesitation, the team sprang into action.
What started as an unplanned visit turned into a life-saving mission. When lives hang in the balance, waiting isn’t an option. With donated funds and unwavering teamwork, we set out to rescue…on the fly.
20 Precious Lives Saved From the Slaughter Pipeline
Through pounding rain, Tennessee traffic, and a long exhausting night, our team rescued 20 horses, minis, and a mule from the slaughter pipeline.
Some were terrified.
Some were heartbreakingly thin.
Some were injured, sick, or simply unwanted.
All of them deserved safety.
Each one had a story. And each one now had a chance.
Intake Day: The Heart of Rescue
The morning after the rescue was a whirlwind of activity. Two trailers, two veterinarians, our farrier and a dedicated team worked tirelessly to assess each new arrival. It’s emotionally draining, but it’s also the start of hope.
We examined injuries, took x-rays, floated teeth, trimmed hooves, checked microchips, vaccinated, and documented every detail. It’s hard work but every step is a step toward healing.
Heartbreaking Goodbyes
Some horses arrive so sick or injured that the most humane gift we can offer is freedom from suffering.
This week, several horses were diagnosed with irreversible, painful conditions…
For each of them, our veterinarian confirmed the same devastating truth: there was no path to a pain-free life.
In those moments, we offered gentle hands, soft words, and love then let them go peacefully.
It never gets easier. But it’s always the right thing.
The Survivors: New Hope, New Lives
Despite the heartbreak, there’s incredible joy in seeing so many horses begin their journey to recovery. Some horses are already making remarkable progress. Additionally, rescues from last month’s auction are now being evaluated for future homes.
Every life saved is a victory.
Every improvement is a celebration.
