When Instinct Saves a Life

What started as a routine day quickly turned into a heart-stopping emergency. Just as the team was about to head out, something didn’t look right with Benjamin. His movement was off, his body tense.
Trusting that instinct made all the difference.

Within moments, Benjamin’s condition spiraled. A dangerously high fever, signs of distress, and rapid decline had everyone fearing the worst. Quick action, constant monitoring and immediate care brought his temperature down.
Slowly but surely, he fought his way back. By the end of it all, the relief was overwhelming. Benjamin pulled through, proving once again just how strong he is.
Thinking Outside the Box: Mary’s Surgery

Remember Mary and her “giant hangnail” hoof injury? This week, Dr. Nancy and Elijah teamed up for a surgical procedure that was pure MacGyver. Using Gigli wire (a specialized cutting wire), they performed a flush removal of the damaged hoof tissue.

“This is completely thinking outside the box… but hey, it works!” — Dr. Nancy
The result? Much less bleeding than expected and a much cleaner, safer hoof for Mary. She’s officially on the road to a more stable future!
Phoenix: The “Broke in a Day” Prodigy

Every once in a while, a horse comes through our gates that leaves us speechless. Meet Phoenix. Only four years old and gelded just a month ago, this smart boy went from “unbroken” to carrying a rider in a single afternoon!
He took to the saddle with incredible calm, responding to seat cues like a seasoned pro. Whoever adopts this smart fellow is getting a true treasure!
Growth, Learning & New Beginnings

The day also welcomed new faces and fresh energy. A new veterinary assistant stepped in, eager to learn and help, while hands-on training continued across the shelter. From daily care routines to medical procedures, every moment is an opportunity to grow and improve the lives of the animals.

Behind the scenes, the team prepared a donated horse trailer for another rescue in need, repaired essential equipment and got facilities ready for upcoming visitors and events.
The mission doesn’t stop at one shelter, it extends to helping others do the same life-saving work!
