A $20,000 Medical Miracle
We are starting the week with some tears of joy! Thanks to our incredible donor, Connie, and a successful community matching challenge, our vet team now has a $20,000 budget for brand-new medical equipment.
Dr. Lydia and Dr. Gina are officially “shopping” for a state-of-the-art ultrasound machine and new surgery tables. These tools are total game-changers, allowing us to perform more advanced diagnostics and life-saving soft tissue procedures right here on-site.
Connie, your belief in our mission has given our medical team the wings they need to fly. We are overflowing with gratitude for this act of kindness which will directly change the lives of dozens of animals in the coming weeks.
A contribution like this doesn’t just provide equipment, it provides hope and a future for horses who had nowhere else to turn.

New Beginnings: The Spay Neuter Clinic
Change is physically taking shape on our property! We met with our builders this week to finalize the placement of our new 50×50 Spay Neuter Clinic and Small Animal Shelter.
This facility, made possible by the Bob Barker estate, will sit right on the main road with high visibility, helping us provide vital services to thousands of local pets and shelter animals. We are aiming to be in full operation by next spring!
Triumphs & Challenges in the Hospital
Our vet team has been working overtime to ensure every animal gets their best shot at a pain-free life.
Sersa, a sweet 20-year-old mare, underwent a successful eye nucleation. While we tried to save her eye with previous procedures, removing it was the kindest choice to stop her chronic pain.
She’s already recovering beautifully and is going to make someone a very happy “beginner” horse soon!
Cleopatra’s leg has healed so remarkably that she has officially been cleared for adoption! She’s even been “desensitized” to the hose during her hydrotherapy.
Not every story has a fairy-tale ending. We received the pathology report for Pooh, our sweet donkey. He was diagnosed with a malignant, infectious form of sarcoid tumors. To prevent a lifetime of suffering and to protect the rest of the herd, we had to provide him with the last act of kindness.
We love you, Pooh….
Cow Chaos & Community Spirit
Rescue work doesn’t always happen in a barn! Our new shelter manager, Shandra, was out for a “get to know you” lunch with the team when they stumbled upon 20 loose cows on the highway.
In true Horse Plus fashion, they dropped everything to help the local sheriff and the owners contain the cattle and keep them off the road. It was a literal cattle drive on foot and we were just glad to be in the right place at the right time!
Mentoring the Next Generation of Heroes
We are gearing up for our Full Circle of Life Workshop, where 15 rescues are coming to be mentored in the “Horse Plus Way.” Over the course of the workshop, they’ll get hands-on experience in everything from intake and veterinary care to daily operations and sustainable rescue practices.
It’s all about equipping other rescues with the tools and knowledge they need to save more lives and make a lasting impact in their own communities.
Behind every surgery, every late night and every tough call is a single goal: giving animals the chance they deserve.
Some stories are joyful. Some are heartbreaking. All of them matter.
Because every life that comes through these gates is worth fighting for.
