Horse Shelter Heroes – S2E1 | Full Episode

Season two of Horse Shelter Heroes is officially underway, and it is already shaping up to be the most impactful season yet.
In just the first few months of the year, Horse Plus Humane Society has helped over 115 horses nationwide, including 60 horses rescued, sheltered, or protected in February alone. What began as local work in Tennessee has grown into a National Horse Welfare Protection Program, allowing the team to step in for horses across the United States. With the addition of a brand-new rescue trailer, the organization is able to reach even more horses in need.

From Rescue to Recovery

This episode takes viewers behind the scenes of daily life at the shelter. New arrivals like Toby and Jasper came to Horse Plus when their owner could no longer ride, arriving with donated supplies and hopeful futures ahead. At the same time, horses already in care received vital veterinary attention, including eye exams, Coggins testing, and follow-up care for medical needs.
Each horse has a story, and each one requires time, medical care and compassion to heal.
Growing the Team to Meet the Need

With the number of incoming horses continuing to rise, Horse Plus Humane Society is actively searching for new horse trainers and handlers. The episode shares a look at the interview process and shows just how important the right fit is in a shelter environment. Training is about more than riding. It is about safety, trust and preparing horses for lifelong success in their future homes.
Happily Ever Afters

Some of the most emotional moments come with adoptions. Tiny, a senior horse with special feeding needs, and Rosie, a pony who was once terrified of people after being rescued from auction, both found their forever home together. Watching Rosie calmly load for adoption is a powerful reminder of what patience, consistency and kindness can accomplish.

Advocacy Beyond the Barn

The episode also highlights Horse Plus Humane Society’s advocacy efforts, including a live news interview focused on stopping horses from being exported for slaughter. With hundreds of horses sent through auctions each week, education, owner surrenders, and national partnerships are critical to saving lives.

After 17 years of rescue work and more than 6,500 horses saved, the mission remains clear. Protect horses. Give them second chances. Create a future where they are valued, not sold by the pound.
Season two is just getting started, and the impact is already being felt.
