Horse Shelter Heroes – S5E1

The year kicked off quietly… but not slowly.
With a smaller team on-site, the work didn’t pause for a second. Cold mornings, full barns and a long to-do list set the tone but so did something even more powerful: hope!

Finding Home, One Adoption at a Time

Right from the start, it became clear what this day would be about… second chances!
Nemo headed off to his new home, marking the first of several happy goodbyes. Not long after, Jester, a gentle older horse from a buy-out rescue, found his person.

And then came Pebbles, the smallest horse in the barn, who completely stole a young adopter’s heart within minutes.

What started as a simple visit quickly turned into something bigger. By the end, multiple animals were heading home including horses and mules. Moments like these remind us just how quickly lives can change when the right people show up.
And sometimes… it really is love at first sight!
A Year of Impact

As the team reflected on the past year, one number stood out:
2,276 animals helped in 2023.
That includes horses, dogs, cats and more. Each one given a second chance through rescue, care and adoption. Even more incredible? Nearly all of them have gone on to find loving homes.
Behind every number is a story. A life saved. A future rewritten.
The Work Behind the Scenes

Rescue doesn’t stop at adoptions.
While some team members welcomed adopters, others worked through the daily realities. Feeding animals in freezing temperatures, breaking ice for water buckets, caring for dogs and making sure every animal stayed warm, fed, and safe.

There’s also the quiet work that often goes unseen. Organizing years of records, preserving histories and making sure every rescued animal is accounted for. It’s not glamorous, but it matters.
Because every life saved deserves to be remembered.
More Lives Changing, Every Day

The adoptions didn’t stop there.
Serena found a home almost instantly, one of the fastest adoptions yet! A puppy named Wrinkles was adopted and is already on a path to becoming a service dog.
And even as animals left for new beginnings, others arrived.
One of them, a 27-year-old Tennessee Walking Horse, came in as an owner surrender. Older, gentle and in need of care, he now has a safe place to land.
That’s the reality of rescue: as some doors close, others open.
Why Rescue Matters

Every single rescue, every adoption, every late night and early morning… it all adds up.
And none of it happens alone.
Supporters make it possible to say “yes” to the next animal in need. To step in when others can’t. To keep going even on the coldest, busiest days.
Because at the end of it all, it’s simple:
Every animal deserves a chance.

Thank you for being part of this journey! Your support made it possible to help 2,276 animals in 2023, giving them the second chances they deserve.
