Horse Shelter Heroes – S4E26

If you think a Monday morning at the shelter is all about quiet coffee and stable cleaning, think again! At Horse Plus Humane Society, we kick things off with a literal “dance-off” at the office door because, let’s face it, keeping that energy high is the only way to keep up with the amazing animals that walk (or trot!) through our gates.
From tiny kittens to “mean” mini steers, this week was a whirlwind of rescues, high-tech healing, and happy endings.

Peanut Finds His Person

The “Looking for Love” wall got a little bit smaller this week! Little Peanut, a sweet dog who was nervous and just needed a soft place to land, officially found his forever home.
His new mom, Cheryl, knew the moment she saw him that he was the “king of the castle” she’d been waiting for. Seeing those adoption photos go up on the wall makes every tough day worth it.
The Great Pasture Rotation (feat. Blue Jeans & Bruno)

Moving mini steers sounds easy, right? Wrong. Bruno and Blue Jeans had other plans. We spent the afternoon playing a high-stakes game of “Don’t Get Gored” while trying to rotate them to fresh grass.

Between a stubborn mule named Tyson and Bruno’s habit of flipping his friend when he gets grumpy, it was a true farm-style workout. Spoiler: The humans eventually won!
High-Tech Healing for Benjamin

Our brave Benjamin is a true fighter. After a long journey back from the brink, he’s now trying out some cutting-edge tech! We’re using Phobia (fluorescent light therapy) to help heal a stubborn drainage issue in his neck.
This orange-gel-and-blue-light combo helps cells regenerate twice as fast. He even took a cookie directly from our hands, a huge step for this shy guy!
Volunteer Power & “Booger’s” Big Glow-Up

We truly couldn’t keep our doors open or our animals thriving without the tireless hands of our incredible volunteers! This week, they went above and beyond, scrubbing the barns until they sparkled and giving Cowboy the royal treatment with a much-needed grooming session.
We are beyond grateful for your hard work and your even bigger hearts… Thank you for making a difference!

Meanwhile, a pup named Booger (coming from a tough hoarding situation) got some much-needed TLC. His nails were so neglected they were curling into his pads, but after a gentle sedation and a “paw-dicure” from Dr. Nancy, he’s feeling like a new man and is off to his new home in Texas!
Deep in the Heart of Texas

Speaking of Texas, the team headed down south (braving 100°C+ heat!) to mentor Hooker Ranch Equine Refuge. We love seeing other organizations dedicated to the “Full Circle of Life” mission.
We’ve even invited them to our upcoming Boot Camp to keep the momentum going!
Why Rescue Matters

This episode reminds us of the incredible resilience of animals and the compassionate people dedicated to their well-being. Every rescue, every volunteer and every adopted animal is part of a larger story of hope, healing, and second chances.

Whether it’s a tiny kitten or a 1,000-pound horse, every life matters here. We’re so grateful for your support that keeps these rescues possible!
