Months of Hope for One Elusive Dog

This episode follows the emotional rescue of Satie, a black dog who survived on her own for nearly four months after being abandoned with other dogs.
While the team was able to rescue the rest of her group, Satie remained just out of reach, earning the nickname the black phantom.

Thanks to the patience and compassion of a local family who slowly earned her trust, Satie finally chose safety.
One cold night during an ice storm, she walked into their home, allowing Horse Plus to bring her to the shelter at last.
When Ice Storms Test Everything

As if rescue work were not challenging enough, a major ice storm hit Tennessee, turning roads into skating rinks and knocking down trees across the property.

Staff and volunteers navigated icy roads, power outages, frozen water troughs and fallen fence lines to make sure every animal stayed fed, warm and safe.
Even when equipment failed and conditions were exhausting, the work never stopped. Rescue does not pause for weather!
A Heartfelt Farewell to a Beloved Veterinarian

This episode also marks an emotional transition as Dr. Lydia, Horse Plus’ longtime shelter veterinarian, shares that she is moving to Japan with her family. While she will still help when possible, her role is opening for the next dedicated shelter vet.

As she says farewell, Horse Plus begins the search for a new veterinarian who shares the same dedication to shelter medicine and animal advocacy.
A Family Reunited

The episode closes with one of the most rewarding moments in rescue work. Satie is reunited with her dog family, believed to be her mother and sister.

The introductions are cautious, emotional and filled with relief. After months apart, they are together again, safe and cared for!

This episode of Horse Shelter Heroes is a reminder that rescue work is not glamorous, but it is meaningful. Support, compassion and perseverance are the pillars of this incredible rescue journey.
