Miracles in the Vet Hospital
Our vet team has been working overtime to give some very special animals a second chance at a pain-free life.
Remember Jay, our sweet blind boy? After a successful bilateral enucleation to remove his painful, sightless eyes, he has officially been cleared to go outside! He’s eating well and starting to navigate his world with a little help from his human friends.
Dora, a massive draft mare, arrived with a severely infected metal tracheostomy tube. In a complicated and, frankly, “stinky” surgery, Dr. Gina and the team successfully removed the tube. Dora is now breathing easy through her nose and is on the road to recovery!
Our adorable donkey, Pooh, underwent an hour-long surgery to remove four large masses, including a baseball-sized one on his throat. He handled anesthesia like a pro and is currently waking up and healing.
Forever Homes & New Beginnings
There is nothing quite like the feeling of watching a trailer pull away with a happy horse and a smiling new family.
We were overjoyed to see Pilgrim get adopted! He’s heading to a wonderful home where he’ll grow up alongside a young boy named Mason. It’s the kind of “growing up together” story that makes our hearts melt.
After nearly a month at the shelter, Loretta Lynn felt an immediate connection with her new adopter. Seeing that spark is why we do what we do!
We also welcomed an owner-surrender of five adorable goats. They are settled in, microchipped and might even have a forever home lined up already!
Fighting for the Smallest Life
Not every patient is big, but every life matters just as much.
Baby Dolly faced a worrying setback when she struggled to stand and developed a high temperature. The team quickly stepped in with fluids, antibiotics, and close monitoring.
She is still small, still fragile and not out of the woods yet. But she is fighting and so is everyone around her!
A Mission Beyond the Shelter
In one of our most exciting updates, we traveled to California to secure a donation that will change veterinary care in the Hopi and Navajo Nations!
We secured a 42-foot triple-axle RV to serve as housing for visiting veterinarians! Previously, vets had to sleep on the floor of the clinic or drive over an hour each way for a bed. This donation means vets can stay on-site, providing more surgeries like the free gelding clinics Horse Plus sponsored this week and staying longer to help the community.
As they say in the Hopi language, “Askwali”, a heartfelt thank you!
