Georgia undergoes radiographs to evaluate possible founder and active laminitis, with careful plans made alongside the farrier to reassess once her hooves are balanced.
These details matter! Teeth affect nutrition. Hooves affect everything. Proper diagnostics mean fewer guesses and better outcomes for horses who have already endured too much.
The Work That Heals Minds
Not all wounds are visible. Horses like Carol carry fear from past trauma, likely tied to the slaughter pipeline. Instead of force, she is met with patience.
Pressure is applied gently, then released. Progress is measured in moments, not milestones.
Snow works quietly along the fence, learning to accept touch from above, preparing for riding without fear. Aramis, minimally handled, is introduced to the drive and draw method, learning that choosing connection brings relief.
Trust is always earned, never rushed!
Life Inside the Quarantine Barn
In quarantine, details matter. Weight checks, wound wrapping, antibiotics and daily monitoring protect the entire herd while giving each horse focused care.
Even small improvements, like better internet access for the barn, help the team stay organized and responsive during long, demanding days.
When Pain Tells a Bigger Story
One horse labeled aggressive at auction tells a different story upon examination. Partial blindness. Pain through the spine and withers.
Sensitivity rooted in discomfort, not attitude. Treatment plans shift from correction to compassion. This is a pattern seen again and again. Behavior is communication. When pain is addressed, trust often follows.
Broke Us Open and Put Us Back Together
As the day winds down, emotions surface. The laughter quiets, the tears come and the meaning of the work settles in.
June’s story unfolds quietly and powerfully. Found emaciated at auction. Skin and bones. Little chance to survive. She required round the clock care, weekends included, watching her improve, then decline, then fight back again.
Over time, the bond grew deeper than anyone planned. And when the moment came, the truth was clear. June was already home.
There are tears as her halter is filled. Tears as she loads into the trailer. Tears from people who have carried her story since the beginning. Not sadness, but release. Relief. Love.
