Welcoming Baby King: A New Star at Horse Plus
The Horse Plus Humane Society has some exciting news straight from the shelter! A tiny, healthy baby horse was recently born, and as always, the team called in the vet to make sure he was thriving. The vet gave him a clean bill of health, and the shelter team couldn’t be happier.
Naming the New Arrival
Once the little guy was deemed healthy, it was time for the fun part: naming him! The shelter shared his photo on Facebook and invited followers to suggest names. In just three minutes, six suggestions rolled in, including creative options like Sundance, Sugar Cane, and Rebellion. The excitement quickly grew, and soon the post had 245 name suggestions from fans eager to be part of his story.
After tallying likes and votes, the winning name emerged: King. This little prince of a horse now has a name as majestic as he is adorable.
Staying Alert in Uncertain Times
While there’s joy in welcoming new life, the shelter also keeps a close eye on challenges affecting horses nationwide. The COVID-19 pandemic has temporarily disrupted auctions, which in turn has slowed the number of horses sent to slaughter. Comparing last year’s figures to this year, the team notes a dramatic drop, from 1,124 horses shipped to just 353.
Though this slowdown is encouraging, the shelter knows that once auctions resume, the need for horse rescue will spike again. With continued community support, Horse Plus is ready to step in and save as many horses as possible from the slaughter pipeline.
