At Horse Plus Humane Society, every trailer that pulls into our driveway tells a story. Some are stories of rescue, others of transformation, and some, like our newest arrivals, are stories of enduring love and final wishes.

A Legacy of Love
Recently, we welcomed five beautiful Arabian horses into our care. For over 20 years, a devoted couple raised these horses, pouring decades of love into their herd. After the owner’s wife of 44 years sadly passed away, her husband knew exactly where they needed to go.
She had been a long-time fan of our show and made it her final wish that her beloved horses come to us, knowing they would be safe from the threat of slaughter.
Watching these horses, some of whom had never left their home property in 20 years, run free in our pastures for the first time was a moment we won’t soon forget.
Farrier Day: From “Hysteria” to Healing
Life at the vet barn is never dull, and our team and farrier, Elijah, certainly had their work cut out for them this week. Because the Arabian crew has lived together their entire lives, they are incredibly “buddy sour,” making them a bit of a handful to separate.
Wisteria, the 27-year-old matriarch, even earned the temporary nickname “Hysteria” for her dramatic protests. However, with a little patience and light sedation, we managed to get their long-overdue trims finished safely.
We also celebrated a massive milestone for Ginger, who has been on a long recovery journey since January. This week, we finally removed her cast.
She is standing flat, moving well and is officially trading her stall for the round pen to start her exercise rehab.
Even Knox the donkey, who arrived with severely overgrown “slipper” feet, is now on a path toward comfortable walking after a much-needed trim.
Teamwork & New Beginnings
This week was a beautiful reminder that rescue is a community effort. We celebrated a high-energy Volunteer Day where amazing folks helped us scrub side-by-sides, sterilize equipment, and give our residents some well-deserved grooming sessions.
Our facility has never looked better and our horses have never felt more pampered!
We also hosted our friends from Peaceful Pastures Donkey Rescue for a shelter transfer. This partnership is a game-changer for the animals.
They brought us four horses who will find homes faster in our horse-focused environment, while they took home several of our “long-ears” to their specialist facility in Missouri.
This network ensures every animal is in the best possible place to find their forever family.
To top off an incredible week, we had a “Found Love” alert right here in our own office. Our camera operator, Isabella, officially adopted Coco, now renamed Ahsoka.
Seeing one of our own team members provide a forever home to a rescue dog is the perfect reminder of why we do what we do.
If the animal is taken care of well and has the best quality of life possible, then we have done our jobs.
A Mission Driven by Compassion
Throughout the episode, the message is clear: caring for animals is a lifelong commitment! No matter the challenges, the team’s focus remains on providing safe, loving environments where horses and donkeys can thrive.
The work proves that with compassion and teamwork, we can make a real difference in the lives of these beautiful animals.
